The well-known shape of an indigenous acacia tree

Teaching a love of trees

On Friday 9 September, Ward 10 councillor Rick Crouch and West Durban Member of Parliament Gareth Morgan attended an Arbour Day celebration at Kloof Senior Primary School, where they donated four indigenous trees.

Gareth Morgan, MP spoke to the students about the importance of recycling, trees and global warming, as well as explaining the importance of the upcoming COP-17.

“I think it is important to educate the children at an early age with regards to global warming and climate change. After all, these are our future business and political leaders. I would also like to thank our Parks Department here in the Outer West for supplying the four trees that we planted,” said councillor Crouch. “I would like to thank Principal Bernice Finch for hosting us. It was encouraging to see the children so enthusiastic and interested in the subject,” Crouch added.

“Young South Africans need to understand the concept of sustainability if they wish to inherit a country that continues to create jobs. Business as usual is now a foreign concept. It is all about business unusual,” said Gareth Morgan, MP.
