South African designers made a big splash at Cape Town Fashion Week, showing that they can create beautiful pieces with the best of the international fraternity. Bright colours and careful detailing added up to unique and wearable pieces with the fresh feel of Africa.
Founded by Durban-born Gavin Rajah, Cape Town Fashion Week is another great reason for visitors (both South African and foreign) to head to the Mother City. Unlike New York, London and Paris, the organisers here allow all fashion-lovers to enter the world of glitz and glamour – even if just for a night.
Emma Jordan, editor of ifashion.co.za, noted colour-blocking, maxis and florals as the big trends to come off the runway. ”The art of combining complementary and clashing colours is loud and proud and everywhere for summer,” she said.
It may be a while away yet, but these gorgeous designs have given us even more reason to look forward to warmer weather!
