The South African Council of Shopping Centres’ Special Star Awards 2011 took place in KZN recently, with The Bedroom chosen as a finalist for the third time – and the Hillcrest branch victorious in the category after just nine months in operation.
The Bedroom is the brainchild of business partners Chantal Edouard-Betsy and Hilda Tod, who opened the doors to their first boutique in Umhlanga in November 2007 after identifying a need for their offering in the marketplace.
They have gone on to win a number of awards in the retail, business and social media spheres and continue to innovate by developing a number of their own home-grown product (where local women-owned small businesses have been empowered in the process), and sourcing high-end imported adult playthings.
